So much for winter swells, with July a dud for contests.
But moving on, August looms as a good month for the next round of World Championship surfing on the Reef that Rules.
The double dates are 10-11 and 24-25.
The battles for supremacy across Opens, Over 40s and Juniors are beautifully poised, with every contestant still in the running to grab the year-end trophies.
And not far away is the annual Battle of the Reefs, with The Point Club hosting the September clash.
Shoes will be aiming to claim a fourth victory.
Also, Guy Turner is working on a separate one-day clash of the titans to be held in August or September to mark the 50th anniversary of Club Shoes, and held in honour of our Patron for Life, the one and only Dr John Murray. Details to follow in the coming weeks.
